Which biathlon program should I register my child in?

Please note, all our biathlon programs except for Black Bears are meant to be taken in addition to a ski program with your ski club.  We focus mainly on the shooting and physical fitness training, and it is expected that you are developing your ski technique in an appropriate nordic ski program.

Age (as at Dec. 31, 2025)

  • While your child may be interested in biathlon, we feel at this age they are best to sign up for a ski group and master the basics of nordic skiing, No programs are offered for this age group.

  • If your child is 10, please sign up for Black Bears, our introductory group for biathlon. Air/Laser rifles provided.

  • If your child is 11 and has no previous biathlon experience, please sign up for Black Bears. If they have previous biathlon experience, please sign up for Grizzly or Polar Bears (both groups are the same level, just at different time slots) Air/Laser rifles provided.

  • If your child is 12 and has no previous biathlon experience, please sign up for Black Bears. If they have previous biathlon experience, please sign up for Grizzly or Polar Bears (both groups are the same level, just at different time slots) Air/Laser rifles provided.

  • If you or your child are 13 years or older (no upper age limit) and are interested in trying biathlon and have no experience and no PAL, it is recommended you sign up for the Laser/Air rifle Intro/Recreational group. Air/Laser rifles provided.

  • If you are 13-14 years old and are wanting to train and compete in biathlon, please sign up for the Junior Development Group. (This group requires a PAL, athletes will shoot .22 rifles)

  • If you are 15-16 years old and are wanting to train and compete in biathlon, please sign up for the Senior Development Group (This group requires a PAL, athletes will shoot .22 rifles)

  • If you are 16 or older and want to compete at a higher level, please register for the HP program. Previous experience in biathlon required (This group requires a PAL, athletes will shoot .22 rifles)

  • If you are an adult looking to train and or compete in biathlon and have a PAL, register for the Masters program. (This group requires a PAL, athletes will shoot .22 rifles)
