CLUB HISTORY
Chelsea Nordiq’s biathlon program was founded in 1994. Close to ten years later, in 2003, cross-country ski programs were introduced. The club was incorporated in November 2004, and our membership has experienced steady growth since then, largely due to the commitment and dedication of parent volunteers.
In 2009, we started a formal ‘recreation’ program, called Adventure Rabbits, to complement our Competitive programs.
In 2010, we hired a new Head Coach, Moe Samm, who has played a critical role in the success of the club since then. More recently, we broadened our scope by hiring a Club Administrator, Program Manager, and Biathlon Coordinator. We also benefit from qualified Cross-country & Biathlon coaches. Nevertheless, a significant portion of our coaching, planning, and administering is accomplished by our incredible team of volunteers.
Chelsea Nordiq has a proud history of creating high-quality athletes, across all our streams. Our athletes have been to:
The Olympics, The Paralympics, World U23 Championships, World Junior Championships (XC & Biathlon), FISU World University Games (XC & Biathlon), World Youth Championships (Biathlon) and IBU World Cup (Biathlon).
We have won many National level medals and hundreds of Quebec Cup medals, in both Biathlon and Cross-country skiing disciplines.
Many of our athletes have completed the 160km Canadian Ski Marathon and we have consistently won the Youth Club Challenge award at this event.
We have a long history of offering exchange programs with other clubs/organisations in Canada. These typically occur every 2 years and have been completed with clubs in Canmore, Whitehorse, Vancouver and Nunavut..
Chelsea Nordiq began as a small community club and to this day, despite now being one of the largest registered Nordic ski clubs in Canada, reflects the values that are important to its community in Chelsea: Volunteerism, Accessibility, Community, and Respect for the Environment.
At Chelsea Nordiq: We ski with friends. We ski as a community. We ski for life.
