Adult Nordic

ABOUT

An engaging program for intermediate level adult skiers who want to challenge themselves, build endurance, improve efficiency and crank up their fitness. This program will focus on activities and challenges that help you ski further, and maybe even faster!

Oh, and we like to make it fun!

The program consists of two parts: i) dry-land sessions and ii) ski sessions

Dry-land sessions

An excellent way to increase fitness, strength and endurance in preparation for the ski season. Most sessions we will split into groups based on type of activity (run, hike, bike); or level of fitness/challenge. We’ll engage in a variety of activities as we explore different areas of the Gatineau Park, including trail running, biking, orienteering, hiking, ski bounding, etc…

Ski sessions

During the first part of the season we will build stamina and endurance, as we gradually increase distances skied each week. Unless conditions dictate otherwise, we will initially focus on classic skiing in preparation for distance challenges, either in the Gatineau Park, or further afield (e.g. Canadian Ski Marathon, Loppets, Hut to Hut Adventure). As the season progresses we will turn our attention more to skate skiing. And any time there is a golden opportunity, we will jump on the backcountry trails. The social aspect is super important, so look out for cabin suppers and a ski touring weekend away.

FAQ

  • You should be at an intermediate level for classic and skate skiing. We offer different levels of challenge, so whether you’re comfortable skiing 15-20km in two hours, or you’re happier in the 10-12km range, we can accommodate your needs. We anticipate that many participants will want to enjoy some longer distance skis (40km+) as the season progresses.

  • The program starts Saturday September 23 and finishes mid-end March (dependent on snow coverage). There are two sessions per week: Tuesdays 7:00-8:30pm and Saturdays 9:30-11:30am. The majority of sessions take place in the Gatineau Park.

  • We have a highly-experienced team of coaches, who all have a long history of leading youth and adults in the outdoors, both with Chelsea Nordiq and other organisations. The coaching team is: Lynne Evenson, Nick Anning, and Carolyn Raab.

  • Dry-land: active wear, waterproof jacket, fanny pack, headlamp, running shoes

On-snow: Participants will need equipment for both classic and skate skiing

  • The program cost for the 2024-25 season is $285.
